Construction
Studio2 is currently under constuction at our new location. I will post details as it gets under way.
The original studio was housed in a 84m2 cottage originally built to house my family prior to building an adjacent, larger home. Converting it for use as a studio was fairly straightforward. Being rural, noise isolation is seldom a problem.
I opted for an acoustically dead control room to minimise reflections and colouration while monitoring on my nearfields. To achieve this I removed the gib from the walls, packed the wall cavity with acoustic bats and re-covered the wall with carpet. I also covered the ceiling with acoustic foam. I do get typical bass loading in the corners, however the nearfield monitoring position seems free from any bass standing waves and significant reflections.
Even so, I listen to commercial mixes I like, to get use to how they sound in the same listening position. Shelves are positioned behind the listening position to diffuse rear reflections from the back wall. The ceiling follows the roof pitch, creating at least one non-parallel surface.
Carpeted walls and ceiling treatment.
Rear of control room.
